Nothing like the MTA

This video is more for comedic enjoyment than anything, particularly the last 30 seconds. New York City’s MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) has an ongoing reputation for long delays, dirty platforms and most of all, derelict employees. This video shows once such example.

Unexpected feedback from the Bolivia videos

After a few months, our Bolivia videos have tallied up a rather large view count. The Tiwanku video in-particular has over 2,000 views. What’s most surprising though is the feedback we’ve received. We produced the videos with a North American audience in mind. However, Bolivians are far more active in viewing them and adding their opinions. For instance, many strongly contested my comment about the positive impact of colonialism as evidenced by the beautiful colonial architecture in Sucre. Although I was not suggesting that colonialism was best for Bolivia, many Bolivians seemed to dislike the notion that anything positive came from the Spanish. This heated reaction reaffirms my observation that many Bolivians still resent Spanish and Western civilization in general for the egregious mistakes of the past. This is in many ways understandable, but unfortunate since it’s not constructive to improving current relationships and moving Bolivian society forward.

My comment about the lack of a Bolivian cuisine also raised some debate. A few emails even mentioned a number of Bolivian restaurants in New York City and Washington D.C. It’s worth reiterating that the low number of Bolivian restaurants in America vs. Indian, Thai, Chinese, and Italian restaurants still acts as an interesting point of comparison and illustrates a significant disparity. Nonetheless, Maria and I plan to try a Bolivian restaurant in Queens. We will probably order the famous national Pique Machu dish and are very curious to see how it compares to the Pique Machu dish we ate in Bolivia. Stay tuned for that video.

Concluding Assessment of Bolivia’s Culture

In this brief video, I share my conclusions about Bolivia’s culture. My experience in Bolivia was a poignant one. From it, I have a much deeper appreciation for New York City’s cultural environment, and also for culture in general and how much it adds to our quality of life. Culture is what makes us human. It determines whether our life is one of subsistence or joy. Thus, the importance of learning how certain economic and political environments effect cultural development. Bolivia is certainly a case in point. I hope this video sheds new light on this issue for you.

(p.s. the video gets better in the latter half)

Copacabana, Bolivia Video

Copacabana was the least enjoyable part of our time in Bolivia, but it was also the most interesting part. Seeing how local Bolivians and visiting Peruvians think in regards to spirituality was unlike anything I’d ever seen before. For that reason, Maria and I enjoyed putting this video together. The entire experience of being there and reliving it via the video has led us to some very thought provoking discussions about religion, church, rationality, and the list goes on.

Sucre and Southern La Paz Video finally finished

Editing this video on Sucre and Southern La Paz was no easy task. There were some very interesting facets to both of these locations, but our footage was sparse and we had to redo most of the audio narration back here in NYC. Nevertheless, I think it’s still interesting for those curious about Bolivia, and I do like the comical story at the end of the video.

Uyuni and Potosi, Bolivia Video

Our visits to Uyuni and Potosi offered very interesting experiences. While Uyuni presented rather uncomfortable weather, I enjoyed photographing the desolate landscapes with old vehicles and trains (see below). In Potosi, we loved wandering through its narrow streets and finding incredible doors to photograph. I think you’ll find the video entertaining to see our journey to Uyuni and also how we enjoyed Potosi.

Our video from Quime, Bolivia

I’m very pleased to post our completed video from Quime, Bolivia. Maria and I had a great time editing all of the footage and reliving some our best experiences from Bolivia. Enjoy and if you’re ever looking for a great adventure and incredible hiking, consider a journey to the remote mountain town of Quime!

Tiwanaku, Puma Punku, and La Paz Video now finished and uploaded

This first video of ours from traveling Bolivia was a little rough to edit. We had very little b roll or good interview footage to work with and the audio changes quite dramatically about half way through. Luckily, the other videos are coming together much easier. I think all of them, despite differences in film quality, are interesting and worth watching when you have the time.
